How we work

We work with schools on a referral basis.
All enquiries should come to us via your schools SENDCO.

Stage 1:

Selection process

At the beginning of each academic year, ATFC’s Therapy selection board meet to work out how many children we can offer therapy to. Once ATFC is able to confirm that they are able to accommodate extra children they will notify each school.

If ATFC feel that the child being referred requires a different intervention than those being offered it will help the SENDCO by referring them on to another organization that may be able to assist.

Stage 2:

Meeting your therapist

The SENCDO makes the referral to AFTC based on their priority list.

Stage 3:

Arranging a convenient time to receive therapy

Once your school has received confirmation from ATFC who will be receiving therapy; the school will send consent forms to parents, and ATFC will send a therapist to your child’s school to observe your child in class and at play. Following on from these observations the therapist will liaise with the SENDCO to work out a time to do the therapy which will have as minimum impact on their core subjects as possible; and then meet with the children to do an initial one to one assessment.

Stage 4:

Child development
history & baseline

Assuming that the client will want to continue with therapy after the initial assesment; the therapist will meet with the parents to complete a parental contract and to find out more confidential information about the childs developmental history.

Stage 5:

Interim review

The therapist will arrange to meet the parent(s) and your child to assess how the therapy is going and to establish if the client requires a longer intervention. This session also provides an opportunity to review how the therapy is going and to discuss any issues or questions that may have arisen.

Stage 6:

Ending

At the end of the therapeutic intervention the therapist will give feedback to parents and teachers to ascertain how effective the intervention has been and what the client has benefited from.

Additional information

DBS

Arts Therapies for Children DBS checks and takes several references on all of its therapists and provides this information to your school before any of its therapists begin working with children.

Professional indemnity insurance

All therapists ATFC work with have their own professional indemnity insurance which will be sent to the school in question before any work begins.

Supervision

All therapists are supervised by approved, experienced and qualified supervisors to ensure that your child receive the best therapy possible.

Confidentiality

All therapists employed by ATFC will are members of the HCPC and are legally bound not to disclose any confidential material.

Safeguarding

Any safeguarding issues are reported immediately to the child protection officer at each school and the therapist’s supervisors before any therapist leaves the school premises on the day of the disclosure.

School ethos / dress code

All therapists will be fully briefed on each schools ethos and will be expected to dress and behave accordingly.
